A CPD Central film, in collaboration with Dream Station Productions.
Urban regeneration, integration and refurbishment of existing with new city fabric as an extension of the Maboneng precinct through introduction of mixed use, public space, residential & commercial.
The Onyx is the featured building which embraces its context, offering respite in the form of a lawn to inner-city dwellers and passers-by. The approach can be lauded for its generosity, optimism, and placing a tangibly higher value on the outskirts of the Maboneng precinct. The enveloping form and playful contemporary elements of the courtyard facing façades counter-balance the austerity of the 13 storey edifice; while the transparent ground floor additionally welcomes the community into the space.
The Onyx building which not only achieves affordable inner-city living but provides options ranging from micro 16m2 units to 50m2 family units. The Onyx can be celebrated for its open gesture to its context and people-centric approach which it manages to bring together artfully.
