As part of the Thrive Student Living by Growthpoint Portfolio, the award-winning Peak Studios student accommodation is setting the standard in this sector. GASS Architecture Studios were tasked with the provision of a unique brand and student accommodation offering which allows for the efficient, optimal and economic design of living units. This includes a mix of studio, two single bedroom and three single bedroom units. Requirements for accreditation with the University of Cape Town as well as EDGE accreditation were paramount to the client to ensure responsible and sustainable development.
Paragon Architects were approached by Zenprop who had owned this building for a number of years. The building had been vacant for quite some time and had become difficult to let due to very narrow floor plates, limited parking and its dated aesthetic. The architects were tasked with coming up with a design that resolved the main difficulties related to the current iteration of the building and met the requirements of the new tenant, Primedia. The primary design approach was to make the building more functional, which entailed redesigning the building’s narrow and disconnected floor plates.

Situated in Gosforth Park in Germiston, the new Matus facility aims to seamlessly integrate client facing provisions and industrial logistics processes into a holistic experience for visitors and staff alike. Developed for Matus by Bidvest Properties, the new office and distribution centre is a complete upgrade from their original home. The facility is designed to facilitate the supply, distribution and repair of all manner of tools and supplies to the building trade industry, with a more efficient storage system for the distribution goods. Matus’s new facility allows for easier collaboration between clients and staff, ensuring their clients to have a dedicated collection and drop off location away from the staff interface.
Lobster Ink is a global training and content developer in the hospitality, food and beverage sector. It is a subsidiary of Ecolab - a Fortune 500 company - and the two brands share premises in Cape Town. They were looking to possibly relocate and refresh their workspace and worked with the JLL Market Advisory team to do a stay-versus-go analysis of their real estate needs. The result was relocating to a space more aligned to their corporate culture and brands in re-gentrified Woodstock, Cape Town. The neighbourhood is an eclectic mix of retail, residential and commercial offices and has become a concentrated hub for developers and freelance content producers in the city which has been ranked as one of the top four destinations in the world for digital nomad work.
