Drive and control technologies specialist, SEW-Eurodrive, recently moved into its new head office and Warehouse in Aeroton, Johannesburg. The new facility is expected to accommodate the company’s growth, with its old head office in Johannesburg now too small to support this. The new facility will serve as both an assembly plant and the new South African headquarters. The site is located within the Aeroton Business Park which is situated just off the confluence of the N1, N12 and M1 highways. Its elevated position affords the building excellent exposure from both the N1 as well as the N12 highways.
Situated in Brooklyn Pretoria, directly opposite the main entrance to the University of Pretoria (UP), Brooklyn House is the first phase of the new University Square precinct, which will reinvent accommodation options and lifestyle for Pretoria students. Each phase will be complemented by value-added student-centric offerings. Brooklyn House offers a public restaurant, convenience store, rooftop pool, outdoor cinema and a gym amongst other facilities. Upcoming phases will include a rooftop running track, fitness studio, state of the art study centre, retail stores, a piazza and amphitheatre. Students housed at any one of the accommodation offerings will have access to all of the facilities available, making University Square a true mixed-use precinct that will provide a true live, study and play environment for the students. A pedestrian bridge that will link the precinct directly with the university campus is currently under planning development.
Independent lubricant manufacturer Fuchs Lubricants South Africa (SA) recently launched its newly built head office and warehouse in Isando, Johannesburg. The company has invested over R250 million in the expansion at its existing location, noting that this came in the wake of rapid growth in demand for its products in subSaharan Africa. The Phase 1 expansion of its facilities consists of the new office complex and warehouse. Phase 2, which is now being undertaken, will comprise of a new lubricants plant to bolster the company’s strong growth and expansion plans for the continent. In 2019 Fuchs Lubricants SA purchased the adjacent stand to their existing operations (Corner of Diesel and Isando roads, Isando) and contracted DRA Global and architects GPD Studio to look at a design for a new blending plant, warehouse and administrative head office on the newly acquired land. The new stand had a series of old industrial buildings on it that for the most part were not salvageable in the new design concept.
Helderberg Nature Reserve’s new Visitors Centre & Educational Facility is located on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains overlooking the False Bay region. The initial design concept was fully conceived by the client, the City of Cape Town Transport and Urban Design Authority - and special mention to Ashly Hemraj for this - with the intention to advance sustainable green architecture underpinned by sound passive design principles that are resource efficient, energy efficient and environmentally responsible. The chosen site is located opposite the existing heritage building off the existing access road leading to the main entrance connecting to Verster Avenue which forms part of the Helderberg Nature Reserve precinct.
North facing with Table Mountain as the backdrop and Table Bay ahead, the site stands proud on the southern side of Victoria Road. Previously home to the old House of Monatic Textile Factory, this central position just off Nelson Mandela Boulevard offers ease of access into Cape Town CBD, the Southern Suburbs, N2 outbound toward Cape Town International Airport, and minutes from the N1 North and South. An existing warehouse, factory shop and office building were demolished and the three separate erven were consolidated into a single 10,252m2 erf. Consideration was given to retaining the existing office building, but the structure did not lend itself to being adapted into a functional and efficient, contemporary commercial building.
