Design Quarter Fourways, Johannesburg’s once premier décor and homeware destination, has been redeveloped as a holistic modern-living lifestyle retail centre. The phased redevelopment was designed by MDS Architecture for Investec Property Fund. Offering 24,570m2 of mixed-use development, Design Quarter is a curated, connected, convenient experience for surrounding residents which was completed in July 2023. Donald McGillivray, partner at MDS Architecture, said, “Design Quarter is a secure, access-controlled precinct located on a prominent site along Winnie Mandela Drive (formerly William Nicol Drive). It is a convenient and sophisticated gateway to the greater Fourways node.”

Johannesburg Surgical Hospital, designed by A3 Architects, is a new state-of-the-art specialised surgical hospital situated in Northcliff, Johannesburg. The hospital consists of a total of 150 patient beds and 13 specialised theatres, 38 doctors consulting rooms, an emergency department and a first of its kind diagnostic imaging department complete with MRI and CT screening. The hospital has attracted 38 of the top medical specialists encompassing all specialties, including but not limited to Neurology, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Urology, Gastrology, Plastic Surgery and General Surgery. The design process was tailored and driven by the doctors and staff input and feedback and the resulting building is not only a pleasing patient experience but a highly efficient clinical operation.

APEX STUDIOS

APEX STUDIOS

Apex Studios is a student housing facility situated in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Developed by Growthpoint Properties, the development houses 901 students over 13 storeys in a new residential building which consists of a variety of unit types, each with private shared bathroom and kitchen facilities, lending itself to an apartment style of living. The units range from 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms with minimal shared rooms in the overall scheme. In this regard the students connect with fellow roommates whilst benefitting from a more private communal area.
